More information about where to send your submissions to be featured in the series will be at the bottom of this post. Quick Play takes over this week's What Ya Playing, which means it's time to share my short thoughts on some games I’ve been playing lately. Octopath Traveler 2. After over twenty hours, I can confidently say this is one of the best RPGs I’ve played in recent memory. Steam Next Fest - Quick Thoughts

Image
From Voidtrain to Planet of Lana, here are my quick thoughts on almost a dozen February Steam Next Fest demos Voidtrain is really great all around and just feels wonderful. The story is a little much (in the chunk I played), but I’m glad it’s there. While I didn’t experience it, I can imagine co-op would be a blast. Solid gameplay and some crafting rounded out my time with this FPS demo. Voidtrain from HypeTrain Digital is out now in early access (on PC) and will be fully released on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC later this year. Bleak Sword DX. This Apple Arcade action title that’s now coming to PC and consoles is both nice and unforgiving. This enhanced version adds “elegant controls, three new game modes, and multiple gameplay and graphical improvements,” though as I never played the original edition, I can’t speak on how big the differences are. Bite-sized levels and great music were other peaks of my playtime. The demo, while not remarkable, showcased a good chunk...

It’s Sunday, which means it's time to talk about all the gaming news this week By: Evan1Sonic. This week has been a big one for news, with this year’s E3 being canceled, Forspoken and Vampire Survivors both getting new DLC, and more. Farewell E3. As first reported by IGN and followed by an official confirmation , E3 has been canceled this year. This is sad news, as for over a decade, E3 was the go-to summer games conference. After 2020 and the push to digital events, there hasn’t been a proper E3 since 2019 despite plans to bring back the event each year. The ESA released this statement about the cancellation. “This was a difficult decision because of all the effort we and our partners put toward making this event happen, but we had to do what’s right for the industry and what’s right for E3. We appreciate and understand that interested companies wouldn’t have playable demos ready and that resourcing challenges made being at E3 this summer an obstacle they couldn’t ove...

Dredge is an adventure RPG game from Black Salt Games. I’ve finished this game and had a really great time with it. At the game’s core is the fun and calming act of fishing for a fresh catch. The minigames used to accompany this act always felt rewarding and were fun to execute. While catching the same fish over and over gets repetitive, the variety of marine animals you’ll find and the engaging minigames attempt to help break the repetitiveness. Once you have your fish caught, it's time to store them in your hull. Similar to Resident Evil 4, your inventory has a limited number of slots to fit items. Using each slot to your advantage is how you can excel as an angler and get maximum profit. I loved this part of the game, and the Tetris-like organizing of the inventory was outstanding. Occasionally, repetitive fishing and monotonous navigation can drag the adventure down a bit, but not enough to warrant frustration. My favorite part of the title is its f...
