Elevate Games Anniversary Update

Image
By: Evan1Sonic. Today marks the second anniversary of Elevate Games, and with it, I’m bringing some changes to what we do in order to help grow our future. Expect bigger and better articles from us with less content output overall. A piece of wisdom I keep thinking back to is the phrase quality over quantity. While for the longest time, I’ve tried to do both with our content at Elevate Games, the more I work on projects and continue to keep up the same cadence of posting, the more I realize I can’t do both without sacrificing one. So with that in mind, from this point on, expect to see less content output on the website. I’m still writing and will continue to do so, but from now on, it’ll be on better pieces of content and more opinion pieces. I have a couple of big articles that I’m nearly finished with, and those will be a taste of what to expect from the future of Elevate Games. A focus on what I desire to create over the normal formats and patterns is something I’m goin...

What Ya Playing 08/30/23

Blasphemous 2 is a side-scrolling adventure game from The Game Kitchen. I’ve finished this game and had a really great time with it. Good helpings of Soulslike and Metroidvania, Blasphemous 2 is an excellent sequel full of tight gameplay and dripping in an often sickening style. With additions such as new weapons and a bevy of slight improvements, this adventure is a step up from its predecessor. While the narrative of this adventure wasn’t very compelling to me, being someone who hasn’t played the first title, aside from a few moments that will stand out clearly in my mind, there's a lot to dig into and enjoy, especially if you are a fan of deep lore and backstories. The highlight of my experience was the incredible gameplay that rarely got repetitive. This is a brutally hard game that will stop at nothing to give you a challenging fight. Twisted bosses are the real stars of the show. With distinctive attack patterns and imposing abilities, they put yo...

Blasphemous 2 Review

Image
Developer: The Game Kitchen Publisher: Team17 Release: August 24th, 2023 Reviewed on: Switch. Also On: PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. By: Evan1Sonic. Good helpings of Soulslike and Metroidvania, Blasphemous 2 is an excellent sequel full of tight gameplay and dripping in an often sickening style. Stunning 16-bit pixel art and an ambiguous and often hazy story are just the tip of the gothic iceberg. With additions such as new weapons and a bevy of slight improvements, this adventure is a step up from its predecessor. In this dark 2D side-scrolling adventure, you play as The Penitent One, a being with what appears to be a screw for a head. In your quest to end your suffering, you must set out to defeat big bosses and, along the way, uncover some long-forgotten secrets. Having not played the first Blasphemous title, I wasn’t that drawn to the narrative of this sequel; however, I found that nearly everything in this world has a backstory and its own lore. While the story wasn...
